Jumalansynnyttäjän Kuolonuneen Nukkumisen Katedraali – Собор Успения Пресвятой Богородицы – Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral,
built between 1862 and 1868 as a Russian Orthodox Church when Finland was ruled by Russia in the person of Tsar Liberator Alexander II,
who however did not liberate Finland from foreign rule by Russia. Today the cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Helsinki
of the Finnish Orthodox Church, an autonomous Orthodox archdiocese of the (Ecumenical) Patriarchate of Constantinople.
The perhaps 60,000 members of the Finnish Orthodox Church constitute about one percent of the population of sparsely populated Finland.
The thirteen flame-dome cupolas (onion domes) of the Dormition Cathedral represent Lord Jesus the Christ and His Twelve Apostles.
